Here’s a cool video showing some behind the scenes footage from a stage production of the Walking With Dinosaurs television show.
Combining aspects of human power with electronic servos and powerful hydraulic systems, these artists have created some very real-looking dinosaurs which are to be used in an Australian stage production. The dinosaurs are operated by puppeteers via several control methods, some of which you can see in the video. It’s pretty amazing how realistic some of the movements are. Some of the dinos appear to be mostly a costume which is worn, while others are much larger and allow the operator to ride inside the beast.
The stage show is called Walking With Dinosaurs – The Live Experience. I’m not entirely sure if it’s related to the very excellent Discovery Channel show Walking With Dinosaurs, but if you haven’t seen that and you have any interest in dinosaurs, you should!
